About the B. Des in Luxury Product Design Program
You are now entering a realm where imagination is sculpted into elegance and ideas grow into timeless masterpieces. This journey is for those who want to create an impact. The program is rooted in the richness of Indian heritage and elevated by global standards. This product design degree course trains you to design products that are deeply emotional and ambitious.
Here, you will experiment with materials, explore sustainable solutions, build prototypes, and merge craft with cutting-edge technology. This immersive B. Des Product Design course is built on a very powerful concept: luxury is not just about objects, it’s about emotion, storytelling, and identity.

PILLAR 1 Function Fantasy Responsibility

“Serve – Seduce – Sustain.” Luxury that works exceptionally, feels magical, and respects the planet.
The first pillar, at its core, is built on a powerful philosophy: “Function Fantasy Responsibility”. As you dive deeper into the course, you will explore cutting-edge areas like emotional and sensory design, where touch, sound, fragrance, and visual
storytelling shape your experiences. The B. Des Product Design subjects, like product design, ergonomics, and product detailing, train you to create products that are emotionally and functionally powerful and ethically responsible.
PILLAR 2 Material as mindset

“Luxury is material intelligence.” Hands-on mastery with responsibly sourced natural/regenerative materials.
The second pillar redefines how you perceive the world of materials. Here, you get to explore sustainable materials, tactile intelligence, and material innovation. From metal to textiles, bamboo to bio-leather, you get to study, experiment, prototype, and innovate with the materials.
PILLAR 3 Craft + Code

“The soul of craft meets the precision of technology.”
Tradition meets technology at this 3rd pillar of our B. Des product designing course. This is exactly where this program stands out among other product designing courses in B. Des. You learn CAD, digital modelling, and 3D printing while studying the deep connection between Indian crafts, artisanal techniques, and present-day technology.
PILLAR 4 Future is regenerative

“Beyond sustainability: luxury must give back more than it takes.”
This fourth pillar pushes you beyond sustainability. Here, you will be trained to think about ethical sourcing, life-long product systems, and circular design. The course pushes you to design products that give back to the planet and not just take from it.
PILLAR 5 Designing the emotion of luxury

“Luxury is emotional, not material.”
Luxury is not seen, it is felt. Through subjects like storytelling, cultural studies, and luxury psychology. This particular pillar of our B. Des product design syllabus evokes desire, belonging, and identity.
With this robust blend of innovation, craftsmanship, sustainability, and storytelling within the B. Des product design syllabus. This course prepares you to step confidently into the dynamic world of designing. Here, every step will bring you closer to a career that is creative, global, and job-ready.

Your extraordinary journey begins with just a single step: B. Des Product designing is where your story truly begins. We are not just looking for students; we seek thinkers, creators, and future innovators.

Merit-Based Scholarships
Earn your scholarship through the D-DAT
At IMS DIA, scholarships are awarded purely on merit – through the DIA Design Aptitude Test (D-DAT). The test evaluates your creative thinking, visual reasoning and design sensibility rather than your academic stream. The stronger your D-DAT score, the higher your scholarship.
What is the D-DAT?
The DIA Design Aptitude Test (D-DAT) is our own admission and scholarship assessment. It looks beyond marks to what actually matters in design – how you observe, imagine and solve. Every applicant takes it, and every scholarship above flows from it. A strong performance can significantly reduce your first-year fee, regardless of which stream you studied in school.

Student Testimonials
Before entering IMS DIA, I was interested in design but didn’t have a clear idea of the direction I wanted to follow. The course has enabled me to better understand my own design style and interests. I particularly like the way Ms. Sikha also makes the learning environment very comfortable, so there is no difficulty in asking questions. The live projects have allowed me to link what we learn in class with actual design situations. I experimented a lot with my ideas here and made mistakes that helped me improve my career prospects.
Some of my best college memories are those from the studio. There are occasions when all of us are working on entirely different ideas, talking about the materials, assisting one another or just trying to work out why something isn’t working. This kind of atmosphere makes the learning process seem very natural. Apoorva Vij Ma’am is the sort of person who encourages us to go beyond the first idea that occurs to us. As a result of the course I have become much more at ease with experimentation.
What I genuinely enjoyed about the Luxury product design course here is that our learning was mainly through projects, discussions and by actually working on ideas. Ms. Apoorva Vij has always encouraged us to think in a different way and to consider design from a more practical point of view. One of my favourite aspects has been the live projects, and campus life is fun at IMS. There’s always something going on, and I’ve met some excellent friends during my time here.
A major advantage of this course is that we get the chance to work on actual projects. You begin to realise the amount of thought that goes into producing a luxury product, whether it’s when coming up with the concept, choosing the materials or preparing the final presentation. I have received a great deal of support from our professors.
I never anticipated, when I first entered design school, just how much I would learn from receiving criticism. Through our presentations and reviews, I have realised that the purpose of feedback is not to tell you whether your work is good or bad; it is meant to help improve it. Shikha Ma’am urged us to consider our work from a different point of view; I became more confident in presenting my ideas. Although the process was difficult for me, I can now totally see the difference in my work.
